Commission a craft piece with clear terms

Agree on materials, dimensions, price and collection details before commissioning a maker during your Ghana trip.

Describe the piece precisely

Write down dimensions, material, colour and any design details you and the maker have agreed. Use a sketch or reference only with clear permission and an understanding of what will be original work.

Ask the maker what is realistic within your timing and budget. Don't treat a handmade commission as an instant souvenir.

Separate the deposit from completion

Agree on the full price, deposit, remaining payment and what happens if the specification changes. Ask when you can review progress and how any correction will be handled.

Keep the agreement and receipt together. Avoid relying on a conversation that neither person has recorded.

Plan collection or delivery

Confirm the completion date and leave room before your departure. If shipping is involved, define who arranges it and what the quoted cost covers.

At Aburi Craft Village or another maker's workshop, choose a commission only when you can meet the agreed process. If the schedule is too tight, buy a finished piece you can inspect and carry.

Rules, fees and opening hours change. Confirm anything that matters before you rely on it.
