Choose a small theme
At the National Museum, collections cover archaeology, ethnography and art. Pick one area that connects with your children's interests rather than trying to cover everything. Ask staff what is suitable and currently open.
Give each child permission to choose one object they want to understand.
Set expectations before entering
Explain the rules on touching and photographs in simple language. Ask staff about bags, toilets and places to take a break. Keep the first visit short enough that leaving is easy if attention fades.
Avoid turning every display into a question with one correct answer. Ask what the child notices before supplying your own interpretation.
Make the follow-up light
Over a meal or on the way home, ask which object they would tell someone else about. A drawing or a short note can help them remember it without a worksheet.
Save the National Museum and confirm any guided arrangements directly. If the visit goes well, return for another theme instead of extending the day until everyone is exhausted.
Rules, fees and opening hours change. Confirm anything that matters before you rely on it.
